An Official Community Plan (OCP) is one of the City's most important tools. It helps influence the way our community grows and develops by guiding how land can be used. Land use and development influence all parts of our daily lives: where we live, work and play. The Official Community Plan outlines the long term vision for growth and development in Maple Ridge. The Official Community Plan is a living document and is updated as our City grows.

Maple Ridge adopted the Regional Context Statement (PDF) in the Official Community Plan (OCP) to show the alignment between the OCP and the Regional Growth Strategy (July 2011). In February 2023, Metro Vancouver adopted an update Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) and the City is currently working on aligning the OCP with the updated RGS. The Local Government Act, Section 866 requires that a municipality must include a Regional Context Statement in the OCP where a regional plan is in effect. A Regional Context Statement must specifically identify the relationship between the Regional Growth Strategy and the OCP, and if applicable, identify how the OCP will be made consistent with the RGS over time.
