Green Transportation

Ethical, Responsible, Sustainable

Maple Ridge is a city that stays true to its agricultural roots, which is why sustainable tourism is very important to the community. As the City grows and tourism increases, a greater demand is put on our local resources and treasures. Maple Ridge is an outdoor adventurers' dream come true and the City encourages the “take only pictures, leave only footprints” approach to exploring our many parks, rivers and lakes.

What Does Sustainable Travel in Maple Ridge Mean?

We have put together some simple tips to being a sustainable traveler while seeing the sights of our beautiful City. Save Water: Taking shorter showers, turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth and reusing towels are simple daily practices that will help to conserve water. Taking shorter showers also allows you more time to explore which is why you are travelling!

Save Energy: Be sure to turn the lights, TV, heat and AC off when you are not in your room. Another easy way to save energy is to put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door. If you are only staying for a couple of days, you likely don't need your room cleaned daily.

Shop Local: Maple Ridge has many boutique shops that boast local artisans' handiwork. Be sure to ask our local shops to point out our home grown talent.

Reuse/Recycle: Maple Ridge is a very recycle friendly city. We recycle almost everything you can think of. Leave the recyclables beside the garbage can in your room so that housekeeping may recycle it appropriately. Also, consider using a reusable water bottle each day. Our City water is some of the best in BC so you can refill your reusable bottle in your room each day, saving you money. Not sure if it is recyclable? Visit Ridge Meadows Recycling and download the A-Z Guide.

Share Transit: Maple Ridge is a walkable city and bike friendly. We also have public transit in Maple Ridge to help you get to the more remote areas. Please consider these options before renting a car.
