Raymond House Residency
Artist in Residence: Alex Neff
Location: 11932 221 Street, Maple Ridge
Alex Neff is a non-binary, neurodivergent creative problem-solver with a passion for mindful design-thinking, illustration, storytelling, and universal accessibility. They are happiest when connecting with others over creative self-expression. Alex maintains a strong interest in collaborating with diverse teams to create reliable solution-finding networks—anything can happen when creative minds come together!
Alex received their Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from The British Columbia Institute of Technology and found ways to elevate their creative practices through Biomimicry (design inspired by nature) and Cradle-to-Cradle Circular Economics. Over the years since, they have pivoted, again and again... and again to gain knowledge from creatives of all perspectives. Throughout the adventures, they have worked to refine their illustration and copywriting skills to provide holistic design solutions in both the physical and digital realms.
Alex’s art practice is called Drawing Thanks. Through this practice, Alex gifts daily hand-drawn portraits with accompanying thank-you notes to contributing community members to celebrate their beautiful efforts to unite others. Beginning in 2018, Alex has gifted portraits to over 3000 individuals, spoken at conferences and workshops, and translated their portraiture into a mural for the City of Vancouver.
Alex is excited to use the process and methodology of Drawing Thanks to celebrate Maple Ridge and all those who make this city such a great place to live, work, and connect.
Alex is always eager to connect with community. Please feel encouraged to reach out and connect.
