Heritage Grant Program

Last updated on

The Heritage Grant Program is currently a pilot program intended to help conserve our community’s heritage by providing financial support for eligible heritage projects led by residents, organizations, and members of local First Nations.

2026 Heritage Grant Program Recipients

There were two recipients identified in from the pilot year of the Heritage Grant program. One project was under the built heritage stream, and the other was for cultural heritage.

Built Heritage

James Rowley is the recipient of a grant for their built heritage project at the historic Whitehead residence. This home, originally built in 1923, is representative of Port Hammond in the early 20th century. Character-defining elements of the building include items such as the original interior detailing, wood doors and windows, and brick chimneys. Funding is being provided for James’ project to support installation of storm windows to the remaining single-paned windows on the main floor, which will contribute to lower energy costs and greater efficiency as a building.

Cultural Heritage

The recipient of a cultural heritage grant for their translation project is the Maple Ridge Historical Society. This project will involve engaging individuals to translate a basic introduction of the history of Maple Ridge into a variety of verbal languages as well as American Sign Language – which will then be available to visitors exploring the museum.

Heritage grants may fund a maximum of 50% of the total project costs, with the remaining amount covered by the applicant. Built Heritage projects may receive up to $4,000 in funding and Cultural Heritage projects may receive up to $2,000 in funding.
