A Collaborative Youth Initiative
About RISE
The RISE Project is a City-led, community-powered initiative funded by Public Safety Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund. RISE reduces youth vulnerability and promotes resilience through a coordinated, trauma-informed approach grounded in three pillars: Intervention, Prevention, and Community Engagement. Since its launch in 2023, RISE has reached 7952 children, youth, families, and service providers, offering flexible, low barrier supports that fill critical service gaps and strengthen the social fabric of Maple Ridge.
The project is one of the first in Canada to embed a municipal-led, multi-agency youth and family intervention team directly within local government operations, linking law enforcement, counselling, outreach, and recreation services in a unified wrap-around approach addressing localized risk-factors of youth.
Project Pillars
Intervention
Offers voluntary counselling, outreach services, and dedicated youth liaison support to assist at-risk youth. These services make up what is commonly referred to as the FYRST program throughout this report.
Community Engagement
Strengthen collaboration among local service providers and create opportunities for youth and children to share their perspectives and contribute to the development of programs. The service provider training is the key program delivered in this pillar and referred to as such throughout this report.
Prevention
Provide accessible, low-barrier extracurricular activities, such as basketball, podcasting fundamentals, and leadership programs, that foster positive development and community connection among youth. These services comprise what is commonly referred to as extracurricular activities throughout this report.
