Culture

What is Culture? Culture embraces what defines us as a community and begins with our unique sense of place and identity, going beyond the arts and programming. Culture is who we are and how we live. Maple Ridge is a rapidly evolving and growing ‘edge city’ with a strong community aspiration to preserve, celebrate and leverage our rural and agricultural heritage. Surrounded by natural beauty and incredible mountain vistas, we are known for our small town atmosphere that celebrates a full range of outdoor culture, arts and heritage.

Approved in spring 2018 the Maple Ridge "Walking Together" Cultural Plan (PDF) outlines the strategic directions for advancing and investing in the community’s cultural development—including arts services; festivals and events; programs; and facilities. It provides decision-makers, community partners and the public with a tool for setting priorities and developing roles for the next ten years.

We look forward to working on the implementation framework (PDF) of this strategic plan with the community.  To participate in the implementation, please contact us at culture@mapleridge.ca and join one of the quarterly Culture Roundtable sessions.

The Cultural Services section of Parks, Recreation & Culture supports the full range of cultural development and programs including festivals and special events, public art, artist in residence, heritage, cultural grants, volunteers and community building initiatives in partnership with groups, non-profits and residents.
