Maple Ridge, B.C., August 28, 2025 – Businesses, contractors and property owners in Maple Ridge can now apply for Tenant Improvement (TI) permits entirely online, part of the City’s commitment to streamline document submission, speed up approvals, and make the building process more convenient.
The expansion adds TI permits—needed for most commercial renovations—to the City’s new online submission platform for permits. Applicants can now complete submissions in one place, reducing back-and-forth paperwork and creating faster, more predictable reviews.
“This is a significant step forward for our local business community,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “Tenant Improvement permits are key to supporting our businesses to drive economic growth and this new process will make things simpler and more efficient. There’s still work to do, but we are dedicated to making the permitting process clear, efficient and accessible for all builders and developers.”
The milestone marks another step forward in the City’s multi-year Development Services Optimization (DSO) program, launched in March 2025. The program began with fully online new home construction permits, which are now targeting significantly reduced 12-week turnaround times, excluding client-side delays. Additional building permit types, along with features such as online payments, are planned for release in late 2025. Further reductions in processing times are expected when applicants provide complete documentation up front.
“Modernization is paying off,” said James Stiver, the City’s Director of Planning and Building. “Businesses and homeowners are getting faster, clearer and more predictable timelines, while the City maintains its high standards of safety and code compliance.”
Applicants can access online portal applications for New Home Construction (MapleRidge.ca/NewHomes) and Tenant Improvement (MapleRidge.ca/CommercialRenovation) permit types through their respective web pages where a guided eight-step process allows users to apply, pause, save progress and return later to complete submissions in a single digital platform.
