Maple Ridge, B.C., February 8, 2024 - Local businesses are invited to apply for the City of Maple Ridge’s new Seasonal Curbside Patio Program, adding vibrancy and energy to city streets and public spaces.
Building on the success of the temporary patio program rolled out during the pandemic, the Seasonal Curbside Patio Program encourages businesses to expand their outdoor spaces, offering more dining options and greater seating capacity while encouraging increased economic benefits.
“We’re thrilled to launch this program which supports local businesses and adds vibrancy to our community by creating an atmosphere where people can gather, socialize and enjoy our beautiful city,” said Mayor Ruimy. “I encourage local businesses to apply to expand their outdoor spaces.”
The City’s patio design guidelines offer four standard designs, as well as accessibility guidelines and construction requirements. Options are as simple as placing tables and chairs in front of a business, and as complex as building a semi-permanent patio on a sidewalk or parking space. Two of the patio options may be left open year-round with City staff approval.
“Curbside patios offer an excellent opportunity for local businesses, including restaurants, cafes and bars to expand their seating options and provide an outdoor experience for their customers,” said Tyler Westover, Director of Economic Development. “We saw with the temporary program, how much life curbside patios added to our city. This new program will allow us to keep that going while also ensuring safety, accessibility and design standards are met.”
The program is open to food and service businesses wishing to use public property like sidewalks or parking lanes for an outdoor patio. Applications must include a patio plan, business information and a certificate of insurance.
Program Details:
- Applications open on February 1
