City of Maple Ridge 2024 Annual Report Now Available for Public Review

Maple Ridge, B.C., June 9, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge’s 2024 Annual Report is now available for public review at MapleRidge.ca/AnnualReport. The report will be officially received by Council at the June 24, 2025, Council meeting.

This statutory document provides a comprehensive overview of the City’s progress and achievements in 2024, including audited financial statements which provide an overview of City revenues, expenditures, and long-term investments. It also highlights the City’s progress in delivering Council’s strategic priorities and corporate goals, reflecting the needs of a growing community.

“2024 was a transformative year for Maple Ridge, and on behalf of Council, I’m proud to share the 2024 Annual Report and the progress we’ve made,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “This City-wide report reflects the hard work of staff and Council to deliver meaningful results for our residents—from accelerating housing and climate action, to strengthening public safety and boosting economic growth—as we continue building a Maple Ridge that is ready for the future.”

The City’s 2023 Annual Report earned the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association, marking 34 consecutive years, the longest ongoing achievement of any municipality in Canada. The 2024 Annual Report is expected to achieve the same national recognition.

2024 Highlights by Council Strategic Priority

Liveable Community

  • Approved permits for 724 “net new” housing units (new units less demolitions)  
  • Updated the Housing Strategy and bylaws to meet provincial housing legislation requirements and support more housing choices and future growth
  • Secured more than $16M through the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund to modernize development and infrastructure
  • Launched a Development Services Optimization program and completed a Housing Needs Assessment
  • Advanced bike infrastructure, transit-oriented planning, and service coordination for new growth areas

Climate Leadership & Environmental Stewardship

  • Advanced the City’s draft Climate Action Plan and completed key risk mapping initiatives
  • Integrated climate lens analysis into City decision-making
  • Protected nine hectares of land and completed the Urban Forest Management Strategy
  • Initiating five priority recommendations from the Mayor’s Taskforce on Climate Action

Engaged, Healthy Community

  • Increased downtown patrols and implemented Phase 1 of the Fire Master Plan
  • Celebrated the City’s 150th anniversary and supported the BC Summer Games
  • Expanded Community Safety Officer hours, hired 16 firefighters and 12 police officers  
  • Boosted online engagement by 20% and launched new grant and accessibility initiatives

Diversified, Thriving Economy

  • Streamlined business licensing to reduce processing times by over 65%
  • Launched a green-powered film electricity kiosk and promoted Maple Ridge as a destination for business and tourism
  • Developed a tourism attraction strategy and explored local post-secondary education options

Governance & Corporate Excellence

  • Launched a performance measurement system to track strategic progress
  • Trained 500+ staff through the new Continuous Improvement Centre of Excellence
  • Completed emergency preparedness exercises and strengthened intergovernmental relations
  • Launched a new City website, completed the 2024 Citizen Survey, and developed a new customer experience framework.
  • Improved financial and business planning processes for greater transparency and accountability.
  • Advanced reconciliation efforts through government-to-government meetings with Katzie First Nation and Kwantlen First Nation

City-printed copies of the 2024 Annual Report will be available at City Hall reception as of June 10, and copies of the final printed publication will be available June 20.
