This phase of the Abernethy Way Corridor Improvements Projects will extend Abernethy Way eastward from 240 Street to 256 Street, creating a safer and more efficient east-west connection through the community, and serving the growing parts of the City.

Description

The City is in the planning stages for this phase of the Abernethy Way Corridor Improvements Project. When complete, the multi-phase Abernethy Way project will deliver a continuous four-lane arterial road between 210 Street and 240 Street with a future connection to 256 Street. Earlier phases have already widened Abernethy Way and enhanced active transportation features between 210 Street and 232 Street.

Status

Plans for improvements to the corridor from 240 Street to 256 Street will continue after the completion of the extension from 232 Street to 240 Street.

Goals

  • Improve connectivity: Create a direct east-west link and reduces congestion on Lougheed Highway and Dewdney Trunk Road.
  • Enhance safety: Provide modern road design, turning lanes, and improved intersections.
  • Support economic development: Enhance access to industrial and commercial lands, strengthening the local economy and job growth.
  • Support regional growth: Open new connections to employment areas and Golden Ears Provincial Park and align with future transit improvements like Bus Rapid Transit.

Impacts

Updates will be shared once further planning occurs.
