The Abernethy Way Corridor Improvements project is a multi-phase project to widen Abernethy Way to four lanes east from 210 Street to 240 Street with a future connection to 256 Street. This multi-phase project will improve east-west connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, improve access for emergency responders, support economic growth, enhance access to industrial lands, and foster local job creation.
Description
Planning for the project started in 2008 and earlier phases have been completed up to 232 Street. The City has engaged residents and interest holders along the full corridor through consultation, technical briefings, updates, and public meetings. In 2019, as part of a technical study, the City engaged the community on three options for 232 to 240 Street alignment.
The Abernethy Way Corridor Improvements Project is part of Maple Ridge’s Strategic Transportation Plan and Maple Ridge Moves strategy, together with Bus Rapid Transit on Lougheed Highway, expansion of Golden Ears Way, a future bridge to Silver Valley, and improved access to the north 256 Street industrial lands.
The Abernethy Way corridor is a key transportation and economic link to the industrial lands at 256 Street and a critical secondary route for the rapidly growing Silver Valley area. It also connects to Golden Ears Provincial Park, the most visited park in BC.
