Maple Ridge, B.C., Aug. 1, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge continues to make strong progress delivering on Council’s Strategic Plan, with three key results and eight major initiatives completed in the second quarter of 2025.

At its July 29 meeting, Council received the Q2 Strategic Plan Progress Report, highlighting achievements to date and introducing new key results to advance the City’s efforts in housing, climate action, economic growth, governance, and community safety.

“This plan isn’t just a checklist, it’s a dynamic framework that guides how we deliver what matters to our community,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “We’re focused on measurable actions that respond to the needs of a growing city, and we’re committed to tracking our progress so residents can see the results.”

Key Q2 Achievements

Three major strategies were completed this quarter, laying the foundation for key next steps in delivering on Council’s priorities:

  • Adoption of the Climate Action Plan – Resilient Future 2050: Moving Boldly Toward Low-Carbon Resilience sets a clear path to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build climate resilience, and support sustainable growth. It outlines five bold moves and 58 actions focused on climate risk reduction, resilient infrastructure, energy-efficient buildings, sustainable transportation, and a low-carbon economy.
  • Completion of the Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) Strategy – A roadmap to support local businesses through outreach, improved permitting, enhanced customer service, workforce development, and stronger regional partnerships. Early actions include service improvements and continued promotion of the Choose Maple Ridge – Support Local campaign.
  • Development of the Investment Attraction Strategy – Targets high-potential sectors such as clean tech, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. Implementation is underway with planning for investment-ready lands, targeted outreach and alignment of services to support business growth.

Advancing Public Safety Through Measurable Outcomes

To build on recent investments in public safety, Council has introduced two new key results aimed at delivering measurable outcomes:

  • Implement 20 individualized action plans for prolific offenders by the end of 2026
  • Increase community engagement with public safety services by 20 percent over the same period

“These new goals reinforce Council’s ongoing commitment to building a safe, inclusive community through enforcement, outreach and support services,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “We’ve added more RCMP members, increased Community Safety Officer patrol hours, and launched new programs like Be Downtown and Project Sentinel. Now we’re taking the next step by setting clear targets and tracking progress, so the community knows these efforts are making a difference.”

These efforts are supported by expanded foot and bike patrols, joint outreach with Fraser Health, dedicated mental health and policing units, youth-focused teams, and ongoing monitoring of problem properties.

A Transparent, Accountable Approach

The Q2 update builds on momentum from the first quarter, which saw 13 initiatives completed, six key results met or advanced, and over 3,300 resident engagements through the City’s Strategic Plan communications. As strategies are completed, new key results are brought forward for Council’s approval, ensuring the Strategic Plan remains responsive and aligned with community priorities.

The Strategic Plan is built around five priority areas: Liveable Community, Climate Leadership and Environmental Stewardship, Engaged Healthy Community, Diversified Thriving Economy, and Governance and Corporate Excellence.

The City also continues to make progress on delivering the 2025 Budget, which supports Council’s priorities through investments in community safety, infrastructure, housing, economic development, and environmental sustainability. Key initiatives underway include the launch of a Social Wellbeing Service, expanded Community Safety Officer coverage, increased support for community events, enhanced capital delivery, and growth in the business and film sectors.
