Maple Ridge, B.C., October 21, 2024 – As we approach Halloween and Diwali, the City of Maple Ridge reminds residents that the sale and explosion of fireworks and firecrackers are not permitted in Maple Ridge without a special events permit.
To ensure the safety of our community, the City’s Bylaw and Fire Departments, along with the RCMP, will be actively addressing complaints as Halloween approaches.
Anyone found contravening the City’s regulations may be subject to a fine ranging from $500 to $1000 and will be required to turn over their fireworks immediately to an Officer.
“We understand that fireworks are often associated with celebrations, but their illegal use poses significant risks to public safety, property, and the well-being of pets and wildlife,” said Fire Chief Dave Samson. “Each year, we respond to numerous calls related to fireworks incidents. We ask everyone to respect the rules to help keep Maple Ridge safe.”
REPORTING A VIOLATION
- To report the sale or use of fireworks or firecrackers, contact the City’s Bylaw, Licensing and Community Safety Department at Bylaws@MapleRidge.ca or call 604-467-7305.
- To apply for a special event fireworks permit, contact the Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue Services call 604-463-5880.
The City hosted the Celebrate the Night event on Oct. 19, to provide residents the opportunity to experience a fireworks display in a safe and controlled environment. This ensures that people can prepare their pets for a short, scheduled event and eliminate the need for individuals to purchase or explode fireworks in the neighbourhood in the days leading up to and on Halloween.
