The City of Maple Ridge is pleased to announce approval for provincial Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) and advises qualifying residents, businesses, farmers, and charitable organizations impacted by flooding from the October 18 to 20, 2024, atmospheric river event to apply before the May 14, 2025 deadline.

The City was approved for DFA by the Province on Feb 13 following concerns raised by impacted residents who experienced significant property and content damage and were unable to obtain insurance coverage for their disaster-related losses.

“This funding is a crucial step in helping those in our community recover from the impacts of last year’s flooding, and we thank the Province for approving the aid,” said Mayor Ruimy. “I also want to acknowledge the residents who shared their experiences and express my sincere gratitude to our City staff for advocating on behalf of impacted residents and businesses. These collective efforts ensured that Maple Ridge’s concerns were heard and addressed.”

The provincial DFA program provides financial relief to qualifying homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitable organizations, and local government bodies. Eligible expenses may include building repairs, the replacement of essential personal effects, equipment and inventory, as well as cleanup and debris removal costs.

“Our priority is always ensuring that Maple Ridge residents receive the support they need in times of crisis,” said Edd Bennett, the City’s Emergency Program Manager “We understand the hardships many in our community have faced following this event, and we encourage all eligible claimants to apply for assistance before the deadline.”
