Maple Ridge, B.C., February 2, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is inviting local businesses to take advantage of the 2026 Seasonal Curbside Patio Program ahead of the spring season with open applications, expanded eligibility requirements, and a February 10th patio showcase event at Haney Builders, making it easier for more businesses to participate.
The program allows eligible businesses to extend their dining, retail, and customer service areas onto City-owned sidewalks and curbside parking lanes, helping to activate streetscapes, attract walk-in customers, and create vibrant, people-friendly commercial areas across the community. Some patio types are permitted to operate April 1st to October 31st and are required to be dismantled over the winter while others can operate year-round. Businesses can learn more and check their eligibility at MapleRidge.ca/PatioProgram.
"Seasonal curbside patios have become an important way for local businesses to connect with customers and bring vibrance to our streets," said Mayor Dan Ruimy. "With expanded eligibility for many patio types in 2026, we're making it more accessible than ever for businesses to participate and take advantage of this great opportunity."
Patio Program Showcase Event | February 10
Businesses are invited to register in advance for a free Patio Program Showcase Tuesday, February 10 from 1 pm to 6 pm at Haney Builders' Supplies. At the free showcase, businesses can:
- See example patio setups and get inspired for their own spaces, including displays from the mobile semi-permanent building block system, EZ Blocks, along with other service providers
- Learn how the City's Patio Program works
- Connect with patio experts, contractors, and service providers
- Get answers to common questions about design, permits, and operations
What's New With the 2026 Patio Program?
Based on feedback from the 2025 operating season, the City introduced several updates to improve the program, including:
- Expanded business eligibility, allowing more types of businesses to participate
- Reduced insurance requirements for many patio types
- Updated design guidelines to provide greater flexibility and clarity
These changes are intended to lower barriers to participation and help more businesses create welcoming outdoor spaces for customers while maintaining safety and accessibility for all.
The Seasonal Curbside Patio Program applies to patios located on public property, including City-owned sidewalks and curbside parking lanes. Patios located on private property, within an existing building envelope, or behind the property line are not covered by this program and are governed through the City’s Building Permit process.
"Whether it's simple storefront seating to full sidewalk experiences, many different types of businesses can qualify to open a patio," said Jeff Baker, Business Retention and Expansion Advisor at the City of Maple Ridge. "We're encouraging businesses to reach out to us or attend our Patio Showcase event to get their questions answered and see how we can help bring their vision to life."
Businesses can learn more, browse resources, and submit their application online at MapleRidge.ca/PatioProgram or contact Patios@MapleRidge.ca.
