Maple Ridge, B.C., May 13, 2026 – Maple Ridge Fire Chief Dave Samson has ordered that, effective Friday, May 15 at 12:00 p.m. (noon), the Category 1 fire ban be lifted city-wide. The order follows the Coastal Fire Centre rescinding the ban within the Coastal Fire Centre jurisdiction due to cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and lower wildfire risk.

Category 1 Campfires

A Category 1 Campfire is an open fire that both:

  • burns material in one pile no larger than 0.5 metre in height and 0.5 metre in width, and
  • is lit, fuelled or used
    • by any person for a recreational purpose, or
    • by a First Nation for a ceremonial purpose.

Category 2 and 3 Open Fires Remain Prohibited

Category 2 and Category 3 open burning remain prohibited, including where a permit was previously issued. The following also remain prohibited:

  • Fireworks
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Burn barrels and burn cages
  • Controlled air incinerators
  • Air curtain burners
  • Carbonizers
