Project Update (May 26, 2025):

Thank you to everyone who participated in our engagement from April 23 - May 25!

Our phase 2 engagement for the Recreation Facility Feasibility Study was promoted through multiple channels (e.g., print, digital, in-person, residential mailout) and, as a result, we received feedback from thousands of participants through our survey (online and print) and five open house events.

Next Steps

We are now analyzing the feedback received and will share a summary of the findings when completed. The next steps include refining the aquatic and recreation facility's program spaces and amenities based on the engagement feedback, finalizing the technical site assessments, and reviewing the plans for the proposed development of the 40-acre multi-use community park (including two new stadium-style baseball fields) that is currently the site of the Maple Ridge Golf Course. A final report will be provided to Council in late summer.

Background

As part of the Recreation Facility Feasibility Study the City is planning to relocate the two baseball fields that are currently at Hammond Community Park to a new stadium-style ballpark at the Maple Ridge Golf Course. The golf course is a City-owned property that is currently leased to an operator.

Hammond Community Park does not have sufficient space to accommodate the two existing baseball fields and the proposed new aquatic and recreation facility and amenities. The Maple Ridge Golf Course site is designated as park space in the Official Community Plan. Given Maple Ridge's current population of more than 106,000 residents and plans for increased housing development in west Maple Ridge, increased multi-use recreation park space has become a priority.

The transformation of the golf course into a community park will take place over multiple phases:

  • The first phase will include establishing two replacement baseball diamonds and associated amenities. The City would aim to complete this first phase before constructing the new Hammond aquatic and recreation facility if it is approved by Council.
  • For future phases, the City will engage with the public on an overall park vision for what will become the City's largest community park space.
