Remembrance Day Wreaths as a Memorial

Maple Ridge, B.C., Nov. 7, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge encourages the community to honour the service, courage and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans by gathering in Memorial Peace Park on Tuesday, November 11, wearing a poppy and taking the day to reflect and remember.

The annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion, Maple Ridge Branch 88, provides the community an opportunity to pay tribute to veterans, active service members, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and freedom.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. with a parade through downtown Maple Ridge, concluding at the Cenotaph in Memorial Peace Park. At 11:00 a.m., the official service will commence, marking the moment of silence at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Flags will be lowered at 11:30 a.m. as part of the ceremony.

“The Remembrance Day ceremony is a cornerstone of our community’s shared history and collective gratitude,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “We encourage everyone to take time to join us in reflection and remembrance, recognizing the bravery and sacrifices of those who have served our country.”

Residents are encouraged to wear a poppy to show their respect. Poppies will be available at City facilities, with donations supporting the Legion and can be placed at the cenotaph following the ceremony.

Road Closures and Parking

A road closure and detour will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to walk, carpool or use public transit to reduce congestion. Limited underground parking will be available in the Town Centre lot, with entry via Edge Street next to the ACT Arts Centre.

Honouring Veterans Year-Round

In August of this year, the City unveiled a commemorative crosswalk in front of the Maple Ridge Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88, located at Brown Avenue and 224 Street, The crosswalk design—painted in red and featuring the emblem of a soldier alongside the words Lest We Forget—was developed in close collaboration with the Maple Ridge Royal Canadian Legion. The crosswalk serves as a daily reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Canada’s armed forces.
