The City of Maple Ridge is implementing water system improvements in the Silver Valley area.
Description
Improvements are being made to the water system that are necessary to ensure the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to residents of Silver Valley.
The route was selected based on input from the project’s civil engineer, geotechnical engineer, and environmental professional; environmental impact was a leading consideration.
The works are divided into two projects: the east project (Granite Way area) and the west project (Birch Avenue area).
Status
Construction began in July 2024. The east project is now complete and the west project is anticipated to complete in June 2026.
A public information session was held on July 16, 2024 from 4–6 pm at Maple Ridge Park. City staff presented the water main route and were available to answer questions.
Trail improvements will be considered with a separate community engagement process.
There will be intermittent trail closures on McCauley Trail and Greg Moore Trail, as well as roadworks on Birch Avenue, 233 Street, Balsam Street, Huston Drive, 235 Street, and 240 Street. Disturbed natural areas along the project route will be restored where applicable.
There is a tree management plan in place which includes the removal and planting of trees in the north end of McCauley Crescent, 240 Street, 237A Street, and Granite Way. Under the plan, 215 trees will be retained and 35 trees will be replaced with 48 trees.
