Property Tax Deferment

The Province of BC administers the tax deferment program. The tax deferment program is a loans program available to eligible B.C. homeowners. It allows you to defer your current year property taxes. For more information, please visit the Provincial Deferment Website.

Applications for the 2026 BC Property Tax Deferment Program will not appear on your municipal property tax account before June 22, 2026. For the most up-to-date information on your application status, please check your Provincial eTaxBC account. If you need additional assistance, you may also contact the Province at 1-888-355-2700.

To avoid penalty, before the due date (July 2, 2026)

  • apply for your deferment online
  • Claim your Home Owner grant, if eligible
  • Pay the Total Utility Services amount listed on your Property Tax Notice and any previous years outstanding property taxes

The Provincial Budget 2026 includes changes to the interest rate terms for the property tax deferment program to introduce compounding interest. These changes will apply to all taxes deferred for 2026 and subsequent tax years.  For property owners who deferred taxes prior to 2026, the interest calculation is explained on the provincial site.
