City Taking Action to Increase Housing Supply

In 2023, the Province of British Columbia introduced the Homes for People Housing Action Plan requiring municipalities to update zoning bylaws to support increased density, updated building requirements, and TOA designations. These changes aim to create more diverse housing options and speed up development near transit hubs.

To comply, the City of Maple Ridge has updated its policies, Zoning Bylaw and other regulations to allow duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes on eligible lots. The City is also working to designate TOAs near transit hubs, promoting complete communities with improved access to amenities and other transportation options.

Key Changes in Maple Ridge

  • Allowing up to three, four, or six units of SSMUH on eligible single-detached and duplex lots.
  • Designating Port Haney Station, Maple Meadows Station, and Haney Place Transit Exchange as TOAs.
  • Updating density, height, setbacks, parking, and lot coverage regulations to align with the new Provincial requirements.
  • Eliminating public hearings for residential projects that comply with the Official Community Plan.
