Maple Ridge’s population is growing at twice the national average with 106,000 residents and counting. To keep pace with this continued growth, we’re leveraging innovative policies, strategic planning, digital tools, streamlined processes, and strong partnerships to help ensure that we deliver more housing that is affordable, inclusive, and integrates with our plans for future focused and sustainable city growth.

Policies and Plans: The Right Development in the Right Places
Guided by provincial legislation, driven by data, and informed by input from the community, we're planning for intentional and inclusive growth. Recent updates to our Official Community Plan and new policies and funding have helped shape a strategic vision for housing in our city that is both beneficial and sustainable for developers, builders, and residents from all walks of life.

We've exceeded our year one growth target by 23% - we built 751 net new homes. We're working to meet BC’s Housing Supply Act target of 3,954 by June 2029.
The City's Official Community Plan (OCP) and related area plans (Albion, Hammond, Silver Valley, Town Centre) are being updated to meet the Province's legislative requirements to ensure local plans align with provincial housing targets. For more information, visit MapleRidge.ca/OCPAreaPlans.

$16.6M in federal funding will support 22 actions across seven initiatives—zoning reform, pre-approved plans, digital permitting, support for affordable housing, and more.
The City is exploring transitioning existing policies to a proposed Tenant Protection Bylaw to strengthen tenant supports for displaced tenants affected by redevelopment.
Transportation: Aligning Housing Growth With Infrastructure Projects
Housing growth inevitably means that there will be an increased strain on our current infrastructure and amenities. The City is planning for intentional, data-driven growth—ensuring that housing is developed in areas where infrastructure, services, and amenities can best support it. This includes a strong focus on transit-oriented areas, the Town Centre, and walkable neighbourhoods close to shops, parks, and schools.

Growth is focused around walkable, connected areas close to transit, jobs, and amenities.
We’re expanding housing options through updated zoning and new tools that support affordability and livability. We are committed to creating inclusive, supportive, and equitable housing solutions for all.

Recent zoning changes allow for three and four homes per lot in many residential areas, and up to six homes per lot on some properties close to transit.
Tools and Services: We're Making It Easier to Build Homes
The ongoing work of our Development Services Optimization program has brought key permit applications online for simpler submissions, a convenient review process, and faster approvals. We’re committed to investing in people, programs, policies, and processes to make it easier than ever to do business in Maple Ridge while addressing our current and future housing needs.
