Maple Ridge, B.C., Aug. 6, 2024 – The City of Maple Ridge has closed access to the Port Haney Wharf floating dock and the Emmeline Mohun Park pathway until further notice. Residents and visitors are advised to use caution along the Fraser River as treefall and woody debris from the Chilcotin River landslide move downstream.

High Streamflow Advisory Remains in Place

The High Streamflow Advisory by the BC River Forecast Centre remains in place for the Fraser River downstream of Hope due to the landslide on the Chilcotin River near Farwell Canyon.

City staff are monitoring the situation closely and advising residents to exercise caution on the Fraser River and stay away from unstable riverbanks.

Large debris flow and sudden rising water levels could result in destabilized riverbanks and strong currents.

Caution signage has been posted to inform residents and visitors of the current high stream flow advisory and the potential for additional debris.

What to do:

  • Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers, creeks and potentially unstable riverbanks.
  • Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, or hiking near high-streamflow rivers or streams, as the risk is increased.
  • Always keep pets and small children close to you

Emergency Preparedness

Residents and businesses along the Fraser River are advised to review their family needs, make appropriate preparations and develop an emergency plan.

When safe, infrastructure owners and operators are recommended to inspect wharves, marinas and boardwalks to ensure they are clear of debris and safe to use.

The City’s response plan includes:

  • Daily monitoring of weather forecasts and river levels;
  • Patrol, inspect and maintain dikes and pump stations;
  • Prepare and disseminate information to the public;
  • Liaise with other government and utility organizations;
