Maple Ridge Fire Ban Expanded to Include Category 1 Campfires

Maple Ridge, B.C., July 16, 2025 – To reduce wildfire risk and protect public safety, Maple Ridge Fire Rescue has expanded the city-wide fire ban to include all open burning, effective noon, Thursday, July 17, until further notice. 

Prohibited Activities 

This updated ban now includes Category 1 campfires (up to half a metre high by half a metre wide), in addition to the following Category 2 and 3 open fires that have been prohibited since May 30: 

  • Fireworks 
  • Sky Lanterns 
  • Binary Explosive Targets 
  • Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size 
  • Air Curtain Burners 

Exceptions 

The ban does not apply to ULC- or CSA-rated: 

  • Barbecues 
  • Camping stoves 
  • Portable campfire devices using natural gas, propane, or briquettes on private property. 

“We thank all residents and visitors for doing their part by following the fire ban—our community’s safety and the protection of our natural surroundings depend on all of us,” said Dave Samson, Fire Chief. “We greatly appreciate your cooperation at this time.” 

Any person found contravening the fire ban will be fined up to $1150.  

Be Fire Safe This Summer: 

  • No smoking is permitted in City parks and trails. 
  • Never leave barbecues or gas campfire devices unattended. 
  • Dispose of smoking materials responsibly, never on the ground or in planters. 
  • Avoid using equipment that can generate sparks near dry grass or brush. 
  • Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.
