Project Update (May 26, 2025):
Thank you to everyone who participated in our engagement from April 23 - May 25!
Our phase 2 engagement for the Recreation Facility Feasibility Study was promoted through multiple channels (e.g., print, digital, in-person, residential mailout) and, as a result, we received feedback from thousands of participants through our survey (online and print) and five open house events.
Next Steps
We are now analyzing the feedback received and will share a summary of the findings when completed. The next steps include refining the aquatic and recreation facility's program spaces and amenities based on the engagement feedback, finalizing the technical site assessments, and reviewing the plans for the proposed development of the 40-acre multi-use community park that is currently the site of the Maple Ridge Golf Course. A final report will be provided to Council in late summer.

Project Update (Apr 23, 2025):
As the Recreation Feasibility Study initiative has progressed, review of the technical assessment findings, analysis of the phase 1 engagement results, and alignment with the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Plan have led to the Recreation Facility Feasibility Study developing into three separate but connected initiatives:
1. An aquatic and recreation facility at Hammond Community Park: The facility and site concept for the proposed recreation facility is being shared as part of Phase 2 Engagement and includes a variety of amenities to meet current and future projected demands of our growing community. It reflects community feedback and aligns with the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan.
2. Two additional rinks at the existing complex at Albion Fairgrounds: The ice rink, initially proposed for Hammond Community Park, is being planned at the Albion Fairgrounds as part of a two-ice rink expansion to the existing arena complex.
3. A stadium-style ballpark at the Maple Ridge Golf Course site: The preliminary design concept and site plan for the new aquatic and recreation facility demonstrate that Hammond Community Park has limited space to accommodate the two existing baseball fields, an aquatic facility, and parking. The City plans to retain one small baseball field at the park while the Larry Walker Field and Hammond Stadium baseball diamonds will be relocated to a new multi-use community park at the Maple Ridge Golf Course site.
Background
Our City is rapidly growing and there is a huge demand for more recreation. In the 2023 Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan, the City of Maple Ridge identified a pressing need for new aquatic and arena facilities, ranking these among the top five recreation capital investment priorities. Hammond Community Park has been identified as the preferred site for the City’s future aquatics facility and ice sheet – priorities identified in the Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Master Plan adopted in February 2023. As a City-owned property and home to the aging Hammond Community Centre and outdoor pool, the site is ideal to minimize land purchase costs for the new facility.
