Maple Ridge, B.C., July 3, 2026 – Maple Ridge is experiencing a record-breaking year for film production, with more than double the number of shoot days compared to the same time last year, while earning praise from Hollywood actor Josh Duhamel, who recently described the community as "so beautiful" in an Instagram video filmed during production of the feature film Runaway.

Duhamel, who is starring in the Canadian-produced feature Runaway, shared a video with his 2.5 million Instagram followers while filming at Allco Park, calling Maple Ridge "so beautiful" and introducing viewers to the community where the production is taking place.

The recognition comes as Maple Ridge continues to strengthen its reputation as one of British Columbia's leading filming destinations. As of June 26, the City has recorded:

  • 260 shoot days, up from 116 during the same period in 2025
  • 506 total film activity days, including prep and wrap days, compared to 188 last year
  • An estimated $7.62 million in local economic impact, nearly triple the $2.68 million generated during the same period last year.

The City also expects another 10 to 12 productions to begin filming in July.

"This is a tremendous milestone for Maple Ridge and reflects years of building strong relationships with the film industry," said Mayor Dan Ruimy. "Film production creates local jobs, supports businesses, generates significant economic activity and showcases our community to audiences around the world. Hearing someone like Josh Duhamel describe Maple Ridge as 'so beautiful' reinforces what our residents already know and love about living here."

The City's growth has been driven largely by a significant increase in episodic television production, with 25 television production blocks filming in Maple Ridge so far this year compared to just seven during the same period last year. These productions typically involve larger crews, longer filming schedules and higher local spending.

Maple Ridge's success is also built on its collaborative approach to filming. While the community does not have major film studios, it offers a diverse range of unique public and private locations supported by a film office focused on finding solutions that help productions succeed.

"Maple Ridge's greatest strength is our community," said Draeven McGowan, the City's Senior Film Advisor. "Our property owners, local businesses, residents and City staff all play an important role in making productions feel welcome. We work hard to understand the realities of film production and find ways to say yes whenever possible. That collaborative approach has earned trust within the industry, and productions continue returning because they know they have partners here."

Many productions are initially drawn to Maple Ridge by its distinctive private properties and natural landscapes. Once filming begins, productions often use additional City facilities, businesses and neighbourhood locations, extending their stay and increasing economic benefits throughout the community.

Film production supports local employment, accommodations, restaurants, retail businesses, trades and service providers while helping strengthen Maple Ridge's growing creative economy.

As filming activity continues to grow, the City remains committed to working closely with residents, businesses and production companies to balance community interests while supporting an industry that delivers significant economic and cultural benefits.
