Maple Ridge, B.C., March 20, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is advising residents that BC Hydro plans to proceed with a controlled release at Alouette Dam this evening, March 20, at 7:00 pm, which was previously delayed.
Updates will be provided on City social media channels should conditions change.
A controlled release is a routine and necessary operation to manage reservoir and is not an emergency. However, residents are advised to use caution and follow posted signage as the release may result in higher river levels and fast-moving water downstream.
City crews remain actively deployed, monitoring conditions, coordinating with partners, and beginning post-storm clean up in more settled areas.
While weather conditions have improved and flood risks and river levels are decreasing, residents are reminded to:
- Stay away from rivers, creeks during and after stormy conditions as banks may be unstable.
- Keep children and pets safe and close around fast-moving waters.
- Check latest weather updates from Environment and Climate Change Canada and the BC River Forecast Centre.
The City’s ongoing flood response efforts include:
- Patrolling and maintaining dykes and pump stations, clearing catch basins, culverts, and flushing storm mains to improve water flow during heavy rainfall.
- Monitoring water levels using the City’s FlowWorks network of gauges and hydrological sensors in coordination with provincial and federal agencies.
- Liaising with provincial and federal agencies to coordinate emergency planning and response efforts.
The City thanks residents for their continued patience, preparedness, and cooperation as conditions begin to stabilize.
