Telosky Stadium, Golden Ears Field, and Samuel Robertson Technical Field
The synthetic turf infill (small green plastic pellets between the grass blades) for the fields at Telosky Stadium, Golden Ears Elementary School, and Samuel Robertson Technical School will be replaced.
Description
The replacement is needed due to deficiencies in the existing Thermo-Plastic Elastomer (TPE) infill product. This work is being carried out under warranty by the supplier at no cost to the City.
The replacement infill product will be a recycled crumb rubber infill which is used at the Karina LeBlanc Field and on most other synthetic turf fields in the region.
The TPEbeing removed from the fields will be sent to a recycling facility.
The infill replacement work will take approximately 6-8 weeks per field and is dependent on weather conditions. The start date of each project can also be impacted by the duration of other infill replacement projects in the region and weather.

This work has been scheduled to minimize disruption to our sports field users. The City appreciates the cooperation of our community sports groups as their field allocation schedules have been adjusted to accommodate this work. Please sign up for the sports field alerts at MapleRidge.ca/Alert for detailed closure dates.
During the closures, Karina LeBlanc Field, Westview Secondary’s synthetic turf field, and all City grass fields will remain open for public use and scheduled sports activities.
We thank you for your patience during this time.
Why did the City install TPE infill originally? At the time, TPE was selected based on industry standards, and sport performance and environmental benefits. It was also in use in other jurisdictions and met all safety requirements. Over time, the product did not perform as anticipated, and the City is now replacing it under warranty to maintain safe and high-quality fields.
How long will the work take? Each field will take approximately 4-5 weeks to complete, weather dependent.
How is this project funded? The infill replacement is covered under the original warranty. There is no cost to the City.
Are there health concerns associated with crumb rubber infill? According to public health authorities there are no known increased health risks associated with playing on fields that use crumb rubber infill.
How are we accommodating sport user groups? The City has worked through an accommodation plan with sports groups that typically use these fields including re-booking sports groups on other available fields and adjusting schedules to accommodate the work.
What is the plan for disposal of the TPE that is being removed from the fields? It will be sent to a recycling facility.
