
Maple Ridge, B.C., December 9, 2025 – Residents are urged to prepare and stay alert as another strong storm system is expected to impact Maple Ridge and the surrounding region from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night, bringing heavy rainfall and rising river levels.
The BC River Forecast Centre has upgraded the High Streamflow Advisory to a Flood Watch for our region, extending across the Lower Fraser Valley. A Flood Watch means:
- River levels are rising and may approach or exceed bankfull
- Flooding of areas adjacent to rivers is possible
Current Weather Conditions
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for Maple Ridge:
- Rainfall amounts of 50 to 80+ millimetres are forecast
- Heaviest rain expected Tuesday night through Wednesday
What the City Is Doing
To reduce flood risks and keep the community safe, the City takes the following measures:
- Inspecting and clearing catch basins, culverts and drainage intakes in priority areas
- Monitoring river and creek levels, including the North and South Alouette, Kanaka Creek and Fraser Rivers
- Inspecting and maintaining dikes and pump stations
- Sharing flood preparedness and safety information with the public
- Coordinating with key agencies and partners
- Monitoring conditions closely and remaining ready to respond as needed
Sandbags: Residents living in flood prone areas are advised to contact the City’s Operations Centre at Operations@MapleRidge.ca or call 604-463-9581. If sandbags are deployed at additional locations, details will be shared at MapleRidge.ca/Flood and on City social media channels.
Stay Safe and Reduce the Risk of Flooding
The City encourages residents to do their part to prepare and stay safe:
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters and catch basins near your home to help prevent localized flooding
- Avoid walking, cycling, or driving through flooded areas
- Stay away from rivers, creeks, and unstable banks
- Keep children close and pets on leash and safe round fast moving waters
- Check on neighbours who may need assistance
- Report downed trees, road debris, or blocked storm drains on City property to the City’s 24-hour line at 604-463-9581 or at MapleRidge.ca/Report
- Stay at least 10 metres away from any downed power lines and call BC Hydro at 1-800-BCHYDRO or *HYDRO (*49376)
