The production company planning to film at Jackson Farm on Aug. 24 has advised the City that it will proceed with filming without removing the small fruit trees identified in the original plan, following discussions with the City about concerns raised by residents.

The City appreciates the production company’s efforts to adjust its approach and avoid removal of the trees.

Filming requests are reviewed carefully to balance community and economic benefits with environmental impacts, community interests, operational needs and production requirements.

The City understands that residents care deeply about Jackson Farm and the trees. The trees considered in the original filming plan are approximately eight to nine small fruit trees, generally three to four feet tall. They were not planted by the City and are not protected or heritage trees under the City’s Tree Protection and Management bylaw.

The City will continue to work with the film production company to minimize impacts at Jackson Farm during filming.

Nearby residents were notified and polled about the filming timelines and impacts in accordance with the City’s filming policy. The City will provide updated information if the filming schedule or site plan changes.

Jackson Farm is currently classified as undeveloped parkland and is not a public park. The City will engage the community as part of a masterplan process for Jackson Farm in the future as identified in the City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.
