Maple Ridge, B.C., September 12, 2025 – Builders, property owners, and developers in Maple Ridge can now apply for demolition permits entirely online, streamlining the process for construction projects that require removing existing structures.
The addition is part of the City's multi-year Development Services Optimization (DSO) program, which aims to modernize and simplify permitting. Demolition permits join new home construction and tenant improvement permits on the City's online portal, supported by a new step-by-step walkthrough video at MapleRidge.ca/Build.
"This is another significant achievement in our ongoing work to modernize the permitting process," said Mayor Dan Ruimy. "By moving demolition permits online, we are making it easier and faster for property owners and builders to prepare for redevelopment projects, while ensuring safety, clarity, and accessibility every step of the way."
About Demolition Permits
A demolition permit is required before taking down any building or structure in Maple Ridge. This ensures utilities are disconnected, environmental and safety measures are addressed, and all work complies with City bylaws and provincial regulations.
Applicants are required to provide details such as site plans, material disposal plans, and confirmation that utilities like water, gas, and electricity have been safely disconnected. Demolition permits are required for full removals while partial removals require a building permit. Learn more about when these permits are required at MapleRidge.ca/Demolition
"Making demolition permits available online helps applicants move seamlessly from site preparation through to construction, all within a single platform," said Hasib Nadvi, the City's Deputy Director of Planning and Building. "This is part of our broader effort to create predictable timelines while maintaining rigorous safety and compliance standards."
The online system allows users to apply, save progress, and return later to complete submissions for demolition, new home construction, and tenant improvement permits.
Supporting Housing Growth
Modernization efforts are helping Maple Ridge exceed its housing targets. The City has already surpassed the 2025 provincial housing target by 23 per cent, with 751 net new homes built over the past year.
With 16,700 residential lots available, the streamlined online permit portal is seen as a key tool to accelerate approvals and help Maple Ridge meet its 2029 provincial target of 3,954 new homes.
More than 150 rezoning applications and 450 building permit applications are currently underway, supported by strategic initiatives such as the Maple Ridge Moves plan, which guides investments in road, transportation, and infrastructure projects including the Abernethy widening, 240 Street bridge, and future bus rapid transit.
