Effective April 1, 2026, the former integrated Ridge Meadows RCMP Detachment has officially transitioned to two fully autonomous detachments, serving the City of Maple Ridge and the City of Pitt Meadows.
The transition process from a shared detachment policing model to two autonomous detachments has been a multi-year initiative, working closely with all partners, municipalities, the Province of BC and units from the RCMP.
Since the Government of British Columbia approved the de-integration in 2021, extensive planning, risk assessment, and validation processes have been carried out to ensure both detachments are fully operational and capable of delivering appropriate and effective levels of policing in line with their respective Police Service Agreements.
QUOTES
I want to assure the residents of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation that the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District will continue to provide support to both detachments as they begin policing autonomously in their communities. Through the regional model for specialized policing, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Teams operations in collision analysis and reconstruction, police dog services, emergency response, forensic identification and homicide investigations remain in place and will continue without disruption.
Assistant Commissioner Elija Rain, RCMP’s Lower Mainland District Commander
On behalf of City Council, we are proud to see this important evolution in policing for our community. The establishment of two autonomous detachments marks a significant step forward, allowing for more dedicated resources, enhanced local oversight and a stronger focus for each community. This transition supports more responsive, effective policing services that are better aligned with the unique needs and priorities of Pitt Meadows—helping to build a safer, more connected community for years to come.
Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald
We congratulate the City of Pitt Meadows as they move forward independently with their own RCMP detachment. With the transition now complete, Maple Ridge moves forward with a dedicated Maple Ridge RCMP presence focused on the needs of our community, and residents can be assured they will continue to receive the same high standard of professional policing services. We thank the officers and staff for their ongoing hard work, professionalism, and commitment to keeping Maple Ridge safe.
Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy
Daily police operations will remain a priority for both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows RCMP Detachments. In the event of an emergency, the public should continue to call 9-1-1.
