Maple Ridge, B.C., February 12, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is inviting Maple Ridge artists to submit design proposals for the 2026 street banner program.

This public art initiative features original artwork displayed on banners throughout the community. Three Maple Ridge-based artists will be selected to create designs reflecting the 2026 theme, Bold By Nature, a contemporary interpretation of the community's connection to the natural environment. Selected artworks will be installed on 363 street banners across the city in mid-May. Each of the three successful artists will receive a $3,000 fee.

"Public art plays an important role in how people experience and connect with our community," said Mayor Dan Ruimy. "These banners are seen by thousands of residents and visitors every day, and this project gives local artists a unique opportunity to share their creativity while reflecting the natural beauty and character that make Maple Ridge such a special place to be."

Last year's street banner program highlighted the Choose Maple Ridge initiative, showcasing bold graphic designs that encourage residents to support local businesses and celebrate community pride. The 2026 project builds on that momentum by shifting the focus toward artist-led interpretations of Maple Ridge's natural elements and creative identity.

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify, artists must live or work in Maple Ridge. Submissions must be original works created by the artist. AI-generated designs will not be accepted. Both new and previously completed works are eligible.

Designs must:

  • Meet technical specifications for a finished size of 24 inches wide by 72 inches high
  • Include the City logo at the top or bottom
  • Account for translucency, as banners are visible from both sides
  • Be visually effective from a distance and when viewed briefly from moving vehicles
  • Avoid overly complex details or fine linework that may not reproduce clearly on fabric

Proposals will be reviewed by a selection panel of city staff, community representatives, and arts professionals.
