Maple Ridge, B.C., December 22, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge is updating how electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at City-owned facilities are priced. These changes were approved by Council and will be implemented starting on February 1, 2026.

The updates will improve fairness, consistency, and access to EV charging stations, while supporting the long-term maintenance and replacement of charging equipment. The new fees are in line with practices used by other municipalities across the region.

While the City continues to support the transition to lower-carbon and zero-emission transportation, EV charging infrastructure is now widely available through both public and private providers. As a result, a consistent user-pay approach is timely.

Where the Changes Apply

The updated fees apply to Level 2 EV charging stations at the following City locations:

  • Albion Community Centre
  • City Hall (street level)
  • Maple Ridge Business Centre (underground)
  • Memorial Peace Park

EV Charging Fees (Effective February 1, 2026)

At all locations listed above, the same charging rates will apply:

  • $0.029 per minute for the first four hours (approximately $1.75 per hour)
  • $0.050 per minute after four hours (approximately $3.00 per hour for each additional hour)

What Users Should Know

  • The same charging fees will now apply at all City-owned EV charging stations. Previously, fees were only charged at Albion Community Centre
  • Higher rates after four hours are intended to discourage long stays and improve availability for other users
  • Charging fees help cover the costs of operating, maintaining, repairing, and replacing EV charging equipment
  • The updated approach reflects the maturity of EV charging infrastructure, with many public and private charging options now available throughout the community

Parking Rules and Fines

  • Parking rules still apply at EV charging locations
  • Vehicles parked in violation of posted parking restrictions, including time limits, may receive a parking ticket, even if the vehicle is actively charging
  • Parking fines are separate from EV charging fees and are enforced in accordance with City parking regulations
  • Drivers are encouraged to check posted signage at each location before leaving their vehicle

Part of a Broader Update to City Fees and Bylaws

These changes to EV charging fees are part of a comprehensive update the City has undertaken to modernize its bylaws, fees, and charges. Council has also adopted updates to other City fees and charges to improve clarity, transparency, and cost recovery for a range of services, including general administrative fees, fire service fees, and sewer-related charges. Together, these updates help ensure City fees reflect current industry standards and practices used by other municipalities.
