For more than 25 years, I have worked in public education, including over 18 years in inner-city schools and more than seven years at the district level in Employee Services. These experiences have given me an understanding of realities within schools and how decisions at the Board and district affect students, families, educators, and staff.
In 2024, I gained perspective as Director of Accommodation for the BC Summer Games, working with SD42 staff. Visiting sites and connecting with those who support our schools gave me firsthand knowledge of the district’s resources, facilities, and operations.
Strong public education requires listening, informed decision-making, transparency, and collaboration, with student success, safety, and well-being at the centre. Decisions should reflect different perspectives and carefully consider their impact on schools. With two grandchildren beginning their education, I am invested in ensuring these principles guide decisions that provide every learner with supports and opportunities to succeed.
