Dewdney Trunk Road at 272 Street
The existing culvert on Dewdney Trunk Road, just west of 272 Street, will be replaced. At the same time, the intersection of Dewdney Trunk Road and 272 Street will be upgraded.
Description
The intersection of Dewdney Trunk Road and 272 Street is a busy thoroughfare serving residents in the area, visitors to Whonnock Lake, and travellers heading east to Mission.
There are a number of planned improvements that will mitigate flooding and erosion, most importantly a replacement of the existing culvert. The intersection itself will also be upgraded and a left turn bay will be added to enhance safety and traffic flow.

The project is currently in design. Construction is anticipated for summer 2026. This project is an example of undertaking multiple related works in sequence to maximize efficiency, reduce disruption time, and improve safety for local road users.
Replacing the existing culvert to improve hydraulic capacity and reduce flood risk, removing the existing structure, and installing a new, appropriately sized culvert and environmental protection measures
Widening the roadway to accommodate a dedicated northbound left-turn bay
Upgrading the intersection geometry to meet current standards
Reconstructing pavement, installing new curb and gutter, modifying existing sidewalks
Updating line markings, signage, and traffic control devices
Adjusting existing utilities, drainage, and streetlighting infrastructure where impacted by the widening
ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. has been retained to design the project. The construction contract will be tendered in summer 2026.
