The City of Maple Ridge is planning important sewer upgrades along 228 Street, Dewdney Trunk Road, and 119 Avenue to support reliable service today and meet the needs of our growing community.
Description
The sanitary sewer system in this area is more than 50 years old and is reaching the end of its service life. The existing pipes will need to be replaced to continue providing reliable service and support future growth.
The storm sewer system along 228 Street also needs to be upgraded to handle future development and help the City respond to the impacts of climate change.
The project includes:
New sanitary sewer mains along 119 Avenue, 228 Street, and Dewdney Trunk Road
New storm sewer mains along 228 Street
New telecommunications conduit along Dewdney Trunk Road

Where possible, the new storm and sanitary sewer mains will be installed in a single trench. This helps reduce future access issues and construction impacts.
Status
The design phase is nearly complete. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026 and will take about 12 months to complete.
The project will help the City:
Replace aging sanitary sewer infrastructure
Maintain reliable sewer service
Increase system capacity to support future population growth
Relocate sanitary sewer mains out of private property where possible to improve future access
Increase storm sewer capacity to respond to growth and climate-related impacts
Add telecommunications conduit to support City infrastructure
Residents and businesses in the area can expect some temporary disruptions during construction, including:
Lane closures in the construction zone
Single-lane alternating traffic
No street parking in the construction zone
Trimming or removal of trees, hedges, fences or other landscaping in the road right-of-way
The City will work to reduce disruptions as much as possible and will share updates as the project moves forward.
Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd. has been retained to design the project. The construction contract will be tendered in late spring 2026.
