Maple Ridge, B.C., July 4, 2025 – Maple Ridge families, Council and staff came together yesterday to celebrate with an afternoon of fun as the spray park at Maple Ridge Park was officially opened to the public.
Designed with input from local families, the spray park is larger, fully accessible, and water-efficient. It replaces the original spray park built in 2005 and is part of a multi-year improvement plan guided by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.
Over $1.9 million was invested in the new spray park from the City’s capital plan with funding support from the Growing Communities Fund, reflecting the Province’s and City’s shared commitment to investing in infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for Maple Ridge residents.
"Maple Ridge Park is one of our most loved destination parks, and it's great to see so many families and kids of all ages and abilities enjoying this new spray park to play, cool off, and make memories," said Mayor Dan Ruimy. "We’re grateful to the Province of BC for helping make this project possible through the Growing Communities Fund and to our community for helping shape it."
The event featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, activities for children, and an opportunity for the community to experience the new spray features, including a water slide, a soaker bucket, a spray tunnel, and water cannons.
Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows MLA Lisa Beare also attended the event and spoke about the importance of investments like this for local families.
"Parks and public spaces are where community happens, and I'm proud that the Province was able to support the City of Maple Ridge through the Growing Communities Fund to help bring this incredible spray park to life," said MLA Beare. "It's wonderful to see families enjoying this beautiful space that supports accessibility, recreation, and connection."
Spray Park Features
The new spray park complements the recently upgraded playground at Maple Ridge Park and was designed to create an accessible, family-friendly experience.
- More play space with features for a wider age range
- Barrier-free surfacing, accessible spray elements, and seating for everyone
- Advanced systems that conserve water even during restrictions.
- Top-Requested Features: Water slide, large soaker bucket, spray tunnel, water table, spray cannons, dripping shelter, lounge chairs, and shade umbrellas
Part of a Larger Park Improvement Plan
The spray park is part of a broader, multi-phase improvement plan for Maple Ridge Park. The previous spray park served the community for nearly two decades but needed replacement to meet modern standards of accessibility and sustainability.
Other completed upgrades include the accessible playground that opened in 2024, featuring a 30-foot treehouse, side-by-side zipline, communication board, accessible swings, and sensory play elements.
Picnic Shelters, Washrooms, and Parking Upgrades
To further enhance the visitor experience and accessibility at Maple Ridge Park, the picnic shelters and washrooms will be replaced later this year, and significant improvements will be made to the parking lots. For more information, visit Engage.Mapleridge.ca/MapleRidgeParkUpgrade.
