Progress continues on key initiatives, with momentum building into Q2
Maple Ridge, B.C., June 3, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge released its first-quarter update on Council’s Strategic Plan, outlining measurable progress on the objectives and key results (OKRs) that guide decision-making and investment across five Council priorities.
The Q1 update demonstrates the City’s continued focus on transparency, accountability, and results-oriented planning as it delivers on initiatives that reflect the needs of a growing community.
“Council remains committed to taking bold, measurable steps and building a strong foundation for a livable, inclusive, and future-ready Maple Ridge,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “This update reflects the work happening every day — from enhancing development services to support new housing, to investing in community safety and attracting events that drive tourism and economic growth. Together with staff, we’re turning plans into action and making visible progress on the priorities that matter to our community.”
Key Q1 Highlights:
13 initiatives completed, including:
- Implementation of new prioritization criteria for development applications
- Finalization of a community engagement framework to guide future efforts
- Completion of an events attraction strategy to grow tourism-based events
- Development of a new concierge program model to support business and investment, now moving into implementation
Six OKRs met or partially met as a result of completed initiatives.
16 additional initiatives moved from ‘not started’ or ‘needs attention’ to ‘in progress.’
20 more initiatives are on track for completion by the end of Q2.
Two projects were closed this quarter: a proposed circular economy project for the film sector and a planned Leadership Summit. In both cases, Council redirected its focus to more responsive opportunities, including a new Youth Summit to be delivered by Recreation Services.
The City also enhanced communications around the Strategic Plan, following Council’s Q4 direction to increase public awareness. Over 600 new users visited the City’s Strategic Priorities web page, and more than 3,300 engagements were recorded across social media platforms.
Looking Ahead:
As additional plans and strategies are completed, updated OKRs will be brought forward to Council throughout 2025, setting the course for continued progress through to 2026. The City is also exploring new ways to share outcomes with residents, including videos and expanded storytelling around key initiatives.
Five priority areas anchor Council's Strategic Plan:
- Liveable Community
- Climate Leadership & Environmental Stewardship
- Engaged, Healthy Community
- Diversified, Thriving Economy
- Governance & Corporate Excellence
Each objective is tracked using the OKR framework, adopted in 2023 as part of the City’s annual Business Planning process.
