High Streamflow Advisory has been issued for the Region, this means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
A moderate to severe system is also bringing heavy rainfall from Friday night through Sunday. Rainfall amounts will vary depending on how long the system stalls, but 50–120mm is likely with up to 200 mm in some areas of the region. Additional heavy rain expected is Tuesday to Wednesday next week.
Potential Impacts
- Localized flash flooding and rapidly rising river levels in the Alouette, Fraser, and Kanaka Creek Rivers
- Washouts, landslips, and erosion-related damage
City crews are actively monitoring conditions and are ready to respond.
Here are some reminders on how to be prepared and stay safe:
- Avoid fast-moving water and unstable riverbanks
- Watch for pooling water on roads—never drive through flooded areas
- Be prepared—know your local conditions
- Use caution near rivers and creeks—keep pets and children close at all times
- Clear catch basins to keep water moving
