Environment Canada has advised the City of Maple Ridge of an upcoming sudden and significant shift to cold temperatures. This is expected to affect Maple Ridge from Saturday, January 18 through Wednesday, January 22. This is the first significant cold snap of the season. We expect cold temperatures at least 5⁰C below normal with daytime highs between 0 to 5⁰C and overnight lows: 0 to -10⁰C. There is a risk that windchill may push these temperatures as low as -15⁰C locally.
With the cold air in place, the risk of snow events increases for all next week, especially later in the week. Cold weather advisories are likely to be issued by Environment Canada in the coming days.
