Maple Ridge, B.C., June 2, 2025 – A series of four vibrant community murals now enrich Maple Ridge’s public spaces, celebrating the people, neighbourhoods, and natural beauty that define the city. Created as part of the City’s 150 anniversary celebrations in 2024, the murals represent a legacy of community connection through public art.

Fraser Valley-based artist Carly Bouwman led the project, with mural designs shaped by community engagement with residents at the 2024 Earth Day event and with partners at the Maple Ridge Museum. Community members helped paint the murals, which feature bold, simplified imagery reflecting Maple Ridge’s landscapes, landmarks, and shared sense of place.

“Public art is a powerful way to reflect and celebrate who we are as a community,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “These murals honour our past, celebrate our present, and inspire a shared vision for the future of Maple Ridge. They were created with heart by a local artist, and with pride from residents who helped bring them to life. I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy our public art.”

The murals are the latest addition to Maple Ridge’s public art program, which aims to celebrate local culture, spark conversation, and beautify civic spaces. The program emphasizes community participation and storytelling and has supported a range of projects, from large-scale murals to interactive installations.

“It’s been an honour to help tell the story of Maple Ridge through this project,” said artist Carly Bouwman. “The murals are about more than paint on a wall—they’re about building connections, honouring place, and sharing the pride people feel for their community.”

Unveiled during the Our Neck of the Woods event on September 14, 2024, in Memorial Peace Park, the full collection includes three neighbourhood murals and one city-wide design, all created in partnership with residents and community organizations.
