Maple Ridge, B.C., March 12, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge released its fourth-quarter update on Council’s Strategic Plan, outlining the progress made on key priorities and initiatives throughout 2024.

The update reflects Council’s commitment to transparency and accountability while ensuring that long-term objectives align with community needs.

“Council is delivering on our commitment to move Maple Ridge forward with bold and measurable action,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “This update highlights our progress in 2024 on our Strategic Plan priorities, from protecting our environment to advancing active transportation and community programming to ensure Maple Ridge remains a city on the move, driven by results.”

The Strategic Plan is centered around five key priority areas:

Each strategic priority is supported by performance measures using the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework, which was implemented as part of the City’s 2024 Business Planning process. The staff report can be viewed here Strategic Update on Objectives and Key Results for Q4, 2024.

Key Accomplishments in 2024:

18 key results were fully met and completed within the year, including:

  • Protection of nine hectares of land for conservation
  • 70% of residents had access to one free community event within a 15-minute walk of home.
  • Delivery of the Maple Ridge 150 events and the BC Summer Games
  • Install 10 secure bike and micro-mobility lockers within the Civic Centre area to support active transportation.
  • Approval of three out of five projects for the Capital Plan to establish a complete east-to-west AAA bike route from 240th to Maple Meadows Station.
  • Operationalization of the Fire Master Plan (Phase 1).

Introducing a new status system improves reporting clarity, distinguishing fully completed key results from those requiring extended timelines or scope adjustments.

Adjustments to Key Results

As with any long-term strategic initiative, some key results have been adjusted to accommodate changing priorities, external influences, and resource considerations. Of the 75 key results set in 2024, 16 have been extended into 2025 to reflect evolving implementation timelines. These include the development of a Business Retention and Expansion Plan, an Indigenous Relations and Engagement Strategy, and a Climate Action Plan. The remaining 41 targets are continuing to progress as planned.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The City is now preparing for the next phase of its Business Planning process, which will integrate lessons from 2024 while setting ambitious yet achievable goals for the year ahead. Council will review and refine priorities to ensure they align with emerging community needs and provincial targets, particularly in housing, economic development, and climate action.
