Maple Ridge, B.C., September 18, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge is inviting residents to share their feedback on proposed design concepts for a new active transportation project to enhance travel along Thorne Avenue between 203 Street and 207 Street.

As part of the City's commitment to expanding its active transportation infrastructure, the City is proposing four options to complete the active transportation corridor between Maple Meadows West Coast Express station and the city’s Town Centre.

Key Design Concept Features
Residents are invited to review and provide feedback on four options.

Key features for consideration include:

  • A three-metre-wide multi-use path (MUP) along the north side of Thorne Ave
  • Designated cycling lanes
  • Improved sidewalks
  • Enhanced lighting, signage, and pavement markings
  • Road drainage modifications
  • Street tree planting and landscaping restoration
  • New driveway letdowns to improve accessibility

The project aims to close a key gap in the active transportation network, improve safety and accessibility for all ages and abilities, and support sustainable travel choices.

How to Get Involved
The City is inviting residents to share their feedback until October 8 and help shape the final design for the transportation improvements along Thorne Ave and connecting to Hammond Road and 117 Avenue.

  • Survey: Complete online at Engage.MapleRidge.ca/ThorneAveUpgrades. Printed copies are available upon request.
  • Open House: Join City staff on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 4–8 pm at the Riverside Centre (Ridge Meadows College), 20575 Thorne Avenue to review the design concepts and ask questions.

This project aligns with the recommendations of the City’s Strategic Transportation Plan, a long-term plan that guides policy and investment to build connections, improve systems, and plan for the next 30 years of the City’s transportation future.

Next Steps
Feedback on the design concepts will be reviewed and a final concept will be developed and shared with the public in winter 2025/26. Construction is planned to begin in spring 2026.
