Celebrate Public Works Week with Open House on May 25

Maple Ridge, B.C., May 3, 2024 – The City of Maple Ridge is inviting the community to get a behind-the-scenes look at Maple Ridge’s Public Works services – from water to waste, roads to parks – at a free Open House on May 25, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Free to the public, the family-friendly event will offer a variety of fun and educational activities at the City’s Operations Centre located at 23925 Dewdney Trunk Rd.

From painting a City snowplow to learning about the journey of drinking water and getting tips from City gardeners, there is something planned for everyone, including:

  • Heavy machinery on display or in action: a recycling truck, backhoe, snowplow, sewer flushing, street cleaner, water meter, and traffic signal demos
  • Free children’s activities: including a construction site, bouncy castle, crafts, games, face-painting, balloon twisting, Clown, and tractor-pulled hayrides
  • A hot dog barbecue by donation to a local charity – supported by CUPE BC and Local 622
  • Photo booth
  • Music, giveaways, and more

Held during Public Works Week from May 19 to 25, the open house aims to raise awareness about the public works services that residents use every day, such as:

  • Clean and safe water when residents turn on the tap water
  • Maintaining city infrastructure and fleet
  • Helping residents get around safely with street cleaning, sidewalks, streetlights, and signage
  • Sewer services
  • Parks and playgrounds for families to enjoy

This year’s Public Works Week theme is ‘Advancing Quality of Life for All’ which illustrates how public works professionals contribute to and enhance the quality of life in the communities they serve. Public works professionals provide essential services that lead to healthier, happier, and more vibrant communities. More information is available at mapleridge.ca/publicworksweek
