Active transportation upgrades are coming to Thorne Avenue between 203 Street and 207 Street.
The City of Maple Ridge plans to expand the active transportation network in accordance with the recommendations of the Strategic Transportation Plan. When complete, the upgrades on Thorne Avenue will connect the Hammond Road and 117 Avenue multi-use paths, providing a continuous active transportation facility from the Maple Meadows West Coast Express station to Laity Street and Lougheed Highway.
Description
In consultation with residents, road users, and community groups, the design of the active transportation connection along Thorne Avenue is currently in development.

Improve accessibility and foster neighbourhood connections
Thank you to everyone who participated in our engagement and shared their feedback on the four proposed design concept options for active transportation upgrades along Thorne Ave.
From September 18 to October 8, 2025 we received over 315 survey submissions and hosted approximately 50 attendees at our open house on October 1. We will review the feedback and share a summary of the results soon.
The feedback will be used to refine a final design that we will share in winter 2025/26.
Once the design is finalized, construction is planned to begin in spring 2026.
Construction notices will be delivered to directly impacted residents prior to construction. The City and its contractor will work to reduce impacts to residents, which will include:
On-street parking will be unavailable in the construction area
Bike lanes will be unavailable in the construction area
Single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect
A temporary road closure may be required
A bus stop will be temporarily relocated during construction
Landscaping (trees, hedges, fences) located in the road right-of-way may be trimmed or removed
Wedler Engineering has been retained to design the project. The construction contract will be tendered in fall/winter 2025.
