Maple Ridge, B.C., September 14, 2026 – The ACT Arts Centre launches its 2026-2027 performance season with acclaimed artist, performer, songwriter, and actor Kristina Lao on Friday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m. Maple Ridge audiences will be among the first to experience new, unreleased music from Lao's forthcoming EP at this Musical Spotlight Series opening performance. Single tickets are $39.90 + fees and are available to purchase at MapleRidge.ca/Performances.

“We are excited to have Kristina open our season and Musical Spotlight Series. With poise and eloquence, she creates songs of empowerment, inspiration, and reflection that we hope every audience member will identify with,” said Russ Brummer, Manager of Arts, Culture & Events.

Lao’s distinctive sound has earned her a growing reputation across Canada and beyond. Born in Hong Kong, she brings a cross-cultural perspective to her music, blending poignant storytelling, layered harmonies, and atmospheric melodies.

“This is more than a live show—it's a shared experience,” said Kristina Lao. “My hope is that something in my music inspires a new perspective... perhaps even sparks a tiny, shiny change in somebody’s life.”

Making her Maple Ridge debut, Lao holds a personal connection to the community through her friendship with Artist-in-Residence, Alex Neff. Her visits to local parks, neighbourhoods, farmers markets, and businesses helped inspire elements of her upcoming performance. Through music and storytelling, Lao highlights the distinctive landscapes, community connections, and natural charm that define Maple Ridge.

The performance also features a “lo-fi interactivity” component; a series of paper-based, tactile activities that invite audiences to engage with the themes of the music and create space for personal reflection.

“This performance is in preparation for my upcoming EP,” said Kristina Lao. “I’m really excited to share new music with the Maple Ridge community, and to integrate elements of the city into the show.”

Lao has appeared in more than 300 shows across 30 cities throughout Asia, Europe, and North America, captivating audiences everywhere from intimate listening rooms to festival stages. Drawing inspiration from folk-pop and British indie genres, she crafts intimate and reflective songs that transform her personal experiences into memorable live performances. Her work has been featured in film and television, while latest releases, Run and Choices, showcase her thoughtful storytelling and artistic versatility.

Individual season tickets are available online MapleRidge.ca/Performances, in-person at The ACT Arts Centre located at 11944 Haney Place, Monday to Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., or by phone at 604-476-2787.
