Sports Field Infill Replacement Project: Status Update
The City is replacing infill on select synthetic turf fields due to deficiencies with the existing Thermo-Plastic Elastomer, or TPE, product. This work is being completed under warranty by the supplier at no cost to the City.
Telosky Field No. 1 – Polygon Field
Telosky Field No. 1 – Polygon Field will be closed starting Thursday, July 30 for approximately six weeks while the infill is replaced.
Golden Ears Field
Golden Ears Field is expected to reopen on Thursday, July 30.
During work at Golden Ears Field, the contractor found that the existing infill, the green pellets between the synthetic grass blades, is heavily compacted deep into the turf fibres. As a result, equipment is not able to fully remove the infill.
To keep the field consistent and safe for use, the contractor will remove the surface clumps and re-instate the field using the same infill. The City will continue to monitor the field and plan for a full turf carpet replacement at a later date.
