Maple Ridge, B.C., March 27, 2026 – Downtown Maple Ridge is gearing up for a vibrant season of events, activities and community gatherings, with the return of free weekend parking, Social Saturdays and community beautification to bring residents and visitors into the Town Centre.

Starting Saturday, April 4, visitors can enjoy free weekend underground parking at the Maple Ridge Business Centre (MRBC), making it easier to attend community events like Celebrate Earth Day, the kickoff of the Haney Farmers Market, programs at The ACT Arts Centre and the return of Social Saturdays in Memorial Peace Park.

The free weekend parking program runs weekends from April 4 to October 31 as part of the City’s Be Downtown strategy to enhance the Town Centre and encourage more residents and visitors to explore downtown. Located at 22470 Dewdney Trunk Road, the MRBC underground parkade offers 384 public parking spaces and is steps away from Memorial Peace Park, the ACT Arts Centre, the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre and dozens of businesses offering shopping, dining and other services.

Following a successful pilot program last year, the City is bringing the free weekend parking program back for the 2026 season based on feedback from local businesses and event organizers who identified affordable parking as a key factor in improving access to downtown during peak times.

As part of the program this year, all users are required to register their vehicle at the parking meter for a free parking session, helping the City better track usage while continuing to offer no-cost weekend parking.

“Downtown Maple Ridge is one of our community’s gems, and we want to encourage people to come experience everything it has to offer,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “From great events, a vibrant arts centre and quaint shops to unique restaurants and services, there’s something for everyone. Free weekend parking makes it even easier to choose Maple Ridge and enjoy our vibrant downtown.”

Social Saturdays Return

Social Saturdays are also back for the season, running April 18 through October 31. Each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Memorial Peace Park will be transformed into a pedestrian-only space to encourage safe outdoor gatherings. Visitors can enjoy picnics, browse the Haney Farmers Market, or take in one of the many festivals and community events happening throughout the season.

Vehicles will not be permitted in the park during these hours, including the Haney Place Loop near the front entrances of the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre and ACT Arts Centre. Visitors are invited to park their vehicles and enjoy these facilities and nearby businesses during Social Saturdays.

“We’re inviting residents and visitors to take advantage of the vibrant events, markets and activities happening each weekend,” said Cidalia Martin, Director of Recreation Services. “While temporary road closures may require a bit of planning, alternative access has been maintained, and we look forward to welcoming everyone downtown.”

A Season of Fun Downtown

Residents and visitors can look forward to a full calendar of festivals, markets, live entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the warmer months. Downtown visitors are also encouraged to check out the exciting lineup of shows, performances and programs at the ACT Arts Centre, which continues to be a hub for arts and culture in the community.

Parking Process and Alternative Access

Underground parking is accessible via Dewdney Trunk Road and Edge Street daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Overnight parking is not permitted after 11:00 p.m. For overheight vehicles, accessible parking is available in the MRBC above-ground parkade, near the Haney Place Bus Exchange, and along 224 Street.

EV Charging Stalls: Users must register their vehicle for a free parking session at the designated parking meter.  EV charging fees and a four-hour maximum parking limit apply.

Regular Stalls: Users must register their vehicle for a free parking session at the designated parking meter.

Beautification and Downtown Pride

The City’s Clean Team and Parks crews are also rolling out seasonal beautification efforts—power washing sidewalks, sprucing up street furniture, and installing hundreds of hanging baskets and floral displays to help keep downtown welcoming and vibrant.
