Choose Maple Ridge - Support Local

Residents and business owners - Choose Maple Ridge by supporting local. We're home to over 3000 businesses and many are owned by neighbours, friends, and families. Local businesses are essential for our community so let's celebrate and support the shops, eateries, and services that make us vibrant.

Now, more than ever, local Maple Ridge businesses need our support! With economic storms raging, our friends, family, and neighbours are counting on each of us to step up and make the choice to buy local.

If half of the employed population spent $150/month at local businesses it would put $161 million back into the BC economy every month!

We've shown that Maple Ridge can come together to support our fellow community members. It's time to do that once again. When we all pull together, we can do amazing things, including showing our local retailers, manufacturers, and service providers just how much we value their presence. Next time you're considering a purchase, Choose Maple Ridge - Support Local!

What is Maple Ridge Buy Local?

Maple Ridge has partnered with BC Buy Local, a province-wide initiative working to build awareness about the importance and impact of local businesses to our community and encourage consumers to shift their spending to local businesses instead of multinational chains or on-line giants.

We encourage all local businesses to register with the Maple Ridge Buy Local initiative and show their localness. Eligible businesses can receive a free Buy Local kit and access to BC Buy Local promotional activities and resources.

Why buy local?

When you buy local, you keep your money in your community and start a ripple of positive impact that makes a difference socially, economically, and environmentally. You support your neighbours and friends, and you help build a thriving local economy that can provide ample goods and services, as well as meaningful jobs for more Maple Ridge residents.

Local businesses strengthen our community, connect and support us socially, and enhance employment and wealth by circulating dollars many times between businesses within the city and region. Your local buying is a vote of confidence in Maple Ridge, and you're saying 'I believe in my community and what it can do.'

Why Buy Local?

Local businesses:

  • Create 4 out of every 10 jobs in BC
  • Make 31% of their purchases from other BC businesses
  • Keep 63% of revenue in BC, compared to 14% for multinationals
  • Create 8 times more jobs and revenue per ft2 than multinationals
  • Give 24 times more per dollar of revenue than multinationals
  • Make up 98% of all businesses in BC and produce 34% of provincial GDP
  • Create 4.6 times the economic impact with each dollar earned

Research from LOCO BC—the group behind the larger BC Buy Local initiative—shows that BC local businesses generate more than double the economic impact of their chain competitors, and the multiplier is even greater compared to online giants.
